‘You Is What You Eat’

Jakarta, the phrase ‘you are what you eat’ seems indeed appropriate to describe the health problems that occur at this time. Food can be the key to make the body stay healthy as well as the key to making the body sick.

The phrase ‘you are what you eat’ does not mean that people will be chicken when eating chicken. The phrase is actually what you eat will be reflected in your body’s health. This expression emphasizes that people should really pay attention to what he put into his body.

What people put into the body it is affecting the health and life. Nutrient content of food that enters the body will determine the composition of cell membranes, bone marrow, blood and hormones.

People lose about 300 billion cells every day till old age and these cells must be replaced. Food is the main source that can replace cells lost each day. Person’s body is literally generated from the food it eats.

The scientists concluded that more than half the annual deaths in the United States (about 1 million people) is a premature death (premature) who could be delayed by changing diet and lifestyle.

Premature death at an early age can be prevented by modifying diet and lifestyle as not smoking, set a healthy diet, exercise, do not consume alcohol, do not use drugs and safe sexual behavior.

“Unhealthy eating habits, smoking, and exercise no cause 700,000 premature deaths in the U.S. in 1990,” explained Michael J. McGinnis, MD, as quoted by MSNBC, Thursday (14/10/2010).

In 2004, a group of scientists at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also has reviewed this issue and reached the same conclusion. Unhealthy foods also increase the risk of premature death, that is because of obesity (overweight) and diabetes.

Healthy foods are foods contain enough nutrients, adequate nutrition, adequate calories, free of additives such as dyes, flavorings, sweeteners, preservatives and artificial hormones.

Food will become unhealthy when it becomes tangent to the addition of chemicals, sugar, salt, oil, hazardous and unnecessary calories.

In fact, the food is good and healthy genes to improve the health of the body and also reduce the risk of chronic disease by 80 percent.

So the condition of the body is affected by both the food intake of healthy foods or unhealthy. The body needs to replace billions of cells every day and the food consumed is the main source to replace these cells.
